"In cases where the taxpayer does not adhere to the agreement, we are not going to go on a witch hunt, absolutely not. I'm sorry if I was interpreted differently in yesterday's hearing".
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy Maurizio Leo at the Sole 24 Ore event 'Telefisco2024'.
"What we want to do - he adds - is to say to the taxpayer: 'Can you explain to me why there is a misalignment between the income you declare and the elements in our possession?'
If he is able to provide justification, there are no consequences, but this falls within the normal logic of assessment in absolute compliance with the law" and privacy.
"It's not as if the relationship will change and we will have a tax system that wants to hit taxpayers. We want to lend a hand to taxpayers, make sure that they align themselves and declare in relation to their ability to pay, that they declare it gradually and, in light of this, lower the rates", explains Leo.
