The statutory minimum wage of 12.41 euros per hour has been in effect since January 1st.
The most important facts about the increase.
The statutory minimum wage rose from 12 euros to 12.41 euros per hour on January 1, 2024.
The minimum wage is stated as a gross amount - i.e. before deducting taxes, pension, health, nursing care and unemployment insurance.
How much of this remains net depends, for example, on the tax class, marital status or number of children of the minimum wage earner.

Practical: There is a “minimum wage calculator” on the Federal Ministry of Labor website: those affected can use it to calculate their monthly salary.
Industry-specific minimum wages set in collective agreements are not taken into account.
Minimum wage and mini-job limit 2024
Mini-jobbers are also entitled to a minimum wage.
The minimum wage and mini-job earnings limit are “linked to each other,” explained
Lohi Bayern
in a statement (as of January 23rd).
The average monthly earnings limit for mini-jobbers will be at 538 euros this year and will allow “43 working hours per month as before”.
In order for the mini-job relationship to continue, earnings should not exceed 6,456 euros per year.
Accordingly, the mini-job center also informs in its blog that mini-jobbers “on average do not earn more than 538 euros per month
“earn”.
Calculated over a year, that’s “up to 6,456 euros”.
What applies to trainees?
There are separate rules for trainees.
For student jobs, “orientation internships” alongside studies or training that last less than three months, and “compulsory internships” as part of your studies, there is generally no entitlement to a minimum wage.
How has the legal minimum wage developed?
There has been a minimum wage in Germany since 2015 - after its introduction, employees were not allowed to earn less than 8.50 euros an hour.
In the following years, the lower wage limit gradually increased to 12 euros - an increase of 41 percent over the years.
There were particularly large increases in 2022: in three steps it went up from 9.60 euros to 12 euros.
After the increase that has now taken place to 12.41 euros on January 1, 2024, the statutory minimum wage will then rise by 41 cents to 12.82 euros on January 1, 2025.
