One of the most popular recipes using puff pastry is savory cheese sticks.
As the name suggests, the dough is processed into elongated sticks on which, of course, only delicious components can sit.
The main ingredient of this practical finger food is obvious; you definitely shouldn't skimp on cheese.
While the many layers of puff pastry ensure that the sticks melt in your mouth, the cheese gives the whole thing more flavor.
The Italian-style puff pastry stick with pesto is even spicier.
Making cheese sticks requires only a few ingredients
The basic recipe for cheese sticks is clear and can be refined and changed depending on your mood.
For a simple version the following ingredients are needed:
2 packs (270 g each) of puff pastry on the cooling shelf
200 g grated cheese (e.g. Emmentaler, Gouda)
1 egg
2 tbsp sesame seeds, if desired

Preheat oven to 180 °C fan oven.
Unroll the puff pastry with paper.
Sprinkle grated cheese on one sheet of dough and place a second sheet of puff pastry on top and press down lightly.
Whisk the egg and spread it evenly on the top sheet of puff pastry.
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips about two to three centimeters wide.
Twist in the sticks and place them on a baking tray with the baking paper.
Bake cheese sticks in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
Let the golden yellow sticks cool down and you're done!
Even as a simple version sprinkled with cheese and sesame, the cheese sticks are a complete success.
So that the recipe doesn't become boring in the long run, you can add additional ingredients to the puff pastry.
If you're still looking for that certain something, you can add small pieces of bacon, dried tomatoes or diced ham to the dough.
The latter also provide a delicious filling in this crispy puff pastry strudel.
