Most people in Germany die from cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks.

Researchers discovered the best way to prevent it.

High blood pressure as a widespread disease triggers some potentially fatal cardiovascular diseases.

These include heart attacks and strokes.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, 340,619 people died from diseases of the circulatory system in 2021.

This makes them the most common cause of death in Germany.

But you can effectively prevent it.

As part of a study, scientists came to the conclusion that around half of the diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular diseases) could be prevented.

The researchers led by Dr.

Christina Magnussen, private lecturer at the Department of Cardiology in the University Heart and Vascular Center at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE).

“What is certain now is that around 50 percent of all cardiovascular diseases are completely preventable.

These study results will have a major impact on preventative measures and ultimately every medical treatment, because high blood pressure in particular needs to be screened and controlled much more strictly,” said Professor Stefan Blankenberg, medical director of the UKE University Heart and Vascular Center, in an interview with Die

Prevent strokes and heart attacks through a healthy lifestyle

Diseases of the heart and circulatory system can often be prevented through early diagnosis and treatment of risk factors such as high blood pressure.

You can find out more about important precautionary measures in the following list:

  • In addition to high blood pressure, there are other risk factors that can be influenced and which can result in cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.

  • These include obesity, elevated cholesterol levels, smoking and diabetes mellitus.

If these are diagnosed and treated early, heart disease can be effectively prevented.

  • A healthy lifestyle, regular physical activity and a balanced diet play a key role in prevention.

Stress reduction is also a real heart protector.

  • But check-up examinations by the doctor are also extremely important in order to detect existing diseases such as diabetes at an early stage.

Find out from your health insurance company which early detection examinations are covered.

This includes, for example, a general health check-up.

As part of this examination, those with statutory health insurance are entitled to a general health check every three years from the age of 35.

The focus here is on the early detection of diseases, especially cardiovascular problems.
