The incidence drops, reaching 7 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the week between 25 and 31 January. The slowdown of Covid-19 continues: according to the weekly monitoring of the Ministry of Health and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità updated to 31 January, the indicators are all decreasing.

The incidence drops, reaching 7 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the week between 25 and 31 January compared to 10 cases per 100 thousand in the previous week.

Bed occupancy is also decreasing.

For those in the medical area the rate is 3.5%, equal to 2,169 hospitalized (it was 4.3% the previous week);

for intensive care the share is 1.2% (102 hospitalized) down two decimals compared to 7 days before.

The Rt transmissibility index, based on cases with hospitalization as of January 23, is also decreasing: it is equal to 0.57, a slight decrease compared to the previous week, when it was 0.60.

The age group with the highest incidence continues to be those over 90;

the highest rates of hospitalizations and deaths are also recorded in this range.

As regards the variants, the role of the JN.1 variant is confirmed: it is predominant, with a proportion equal to 75.2% of the sequenced samples.

“The last few months have definitively and unequivocally highlighted that we are faced with the endemicization of SARS-CoV-2.

These results are the result of hybrid immunity, of the therapeutic and prevention tools put in place."

Thus the Director General of Health Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Francesco Vaia, commenting on the progress of the epidemiological situation.

   In the week between 25 and 31 January 2024, 3,859 new positive cases were recorded with a variation of -33.6% compared to the previous week (there were 5,810);

115 deaths with a variation of -43.3% compared to the previous week (203);

151,116 swabs carried out with a variation of -5.7% compared to the previous week (160,219).

The positivity rate of 2.6% with a change of -1.0% compared to the previous week (3.6%).

   The employment rate in the medical area as of 01/31/2024 is equal to 3.5% (2,169 hospitalized patients) compared to 4.3% (2,691 hospitalized patients) on 01/24/2024.

Finally, the occupancy rate in intensive care as of 01/31/2024 is equal to 1.2% (106 hospitalized) compared to 1.4% (121 hospitalized) on 01/24/2024.
