"New rules are needed in all sectors. The world of 2024 is no longer that of 1985" says the minister. "We regret having supported the Winter Olympics, let's wake up, there are 2 years left" (ANSA)

"If Europe gives itself new budget rules, it must do so in all sectors"

.

This was stated by

Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, underlining that "I cannot conclude the sale of Ita to Lufthansa because they blocked it, but there are rules on steel and agriculture".

"It doesn't mean being against Europe - he underlines - which must understand that

the new world of 2024 is no longer that of 1985"

.

"Today - he insists - there is a debate on where to produce Stellantis cars. The problem is that if we don't change our approach, in 10 years there will only be electric Chinese and Indian cars".

"In Europe - explains the Minister of Economy - in 2023 the average growth was 0.5%, for us it went a little better at 0.7%, but this means that old Europe is at a standstill".

In his opinion

"we need to determine the dynamics that reactivate this growth

, and will Europe be able to do it? I don't know".

"The new stability pact perhaps does not interpret the fiscal rules to promote growth, they are attentive to the debt and we know it well, but so businesses get angry about high interest rates, families get angry about mortgages and so do I. because I pay higher rates on public debt."

"This is the reality of Europe - concludes Minister Giorgetti - and perhaps it would be appropriate to give ourselves a new philosophy or vision for everything that is happening".

Giorgetti: 'I almost regret having promoted the Winter Olympics, only 2 years to go'

Economy Minister Giancarlo Gigetti almost regrets having worked to obtain the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. He stated this during a meeting at the Sondrio Chamber of Commerce.

"The Olympics don't come every two years, they arrive in 2026 and then they won't come again - he explains - and I'm starting to regret having done it (promoting the event, ed.), because I feel responsible for it and several years have passed from 2018 to 2024 years".

Hence the proposal to "put a nice electronic board at the entrance to Valtellina which indicates how many days are left to realize the sense of urgency needed".

"I don't want to blame anyone - says Giancarlo Giorgetti in Sondrio - but I look at what we have done and what we haven't done, the Olympics are two years away, the number of days that pass continues to reduce, time is getting terribly shorter and becomes almost impossible to meet the timetable."

"And then - he continues - if I have the conditions, there is a bank, the event and the institutions, let's see how we can do so as not to miss this historic opportunity and sound the last alarm so as not to miss this great opportunity".
