Many people know them: blue stickers with white numbers on the rear windows of cars.
But what do the ominous signs that are increasingly dotting the streets mean?
Kassel – Actually it’s just a small detail.
But most people have probably already noticed them.
Blue stickers on the rear windows of many cars.
You can see it: a combination of white numbers.
But what do these stickers actually mean?
Stickers on the rear window are mandatory for many drivers
What many people don't know: For some drivers, the sticker is mandatory.
However, private drivers can breathe a sigh of relief in this regard.
And this rule does not apply to diplomatic cars either.
Since August 1, 2021, the sticker on the rear window is only mandatory for commercial driving service providers.
This is stated in the then updated version of the Passenger Transport Act (PBefG).
In practice, this affects companies such as Uber, FreeNow and Bolt.

At airports, the sticker serves the function of distinguishing between taxis with the classic black and yellow markings and other ride service providers such as those mentioned above.
Drivers must follow certain blue sticker rules
There are certain rules to get such a sticker.
They are contained in the Ordinance on the Operation of Motor Vehicle Companies in Passenger Transport (BOKraft).
Paragraph three states: “For rental cars, an outward and inward sign in accordance with Appendix 3a with the serial number issued by the approval authority must be attached to the lower right corner of the rear window.”
The clearly visible sticker makes it easier to identify the vehicles.
This allows other road users to immediately recognize that a professional driver with proper business registration should be behind the wheel.
The sticker also signals that the vehicle has undergone a TÜV test.
The driver also has to pass tests to get the sticker, namely a health check and a background check.
Finally, the sticker indicates that the vehicle has extended passenger transport insurance.
The absence of such a blue sticker should therefore serve as a warning signal to all passengers.
