Frozen pizza is a thing of the past, now baked kebabs are hitting the shelves of Edeka and Rewe.

For many people, this is a reason to completely lose their nerve.

Munich – When the first frozen pizza appeared on supermarket shelves a good 50 years ago, some people probably foresaw the downfall of the West.

Now Germany may be in for another culinary revolution: the baked kebab is coming to the supermarket branches of Rewe and Edeka.

Edeka and Rewe are adding baked kebabs to their supermarket range - but not in all branches for the time being

Instead of dragging yourself to the nearest kebab shop, all you have to do from now on is go to your freezer.

Then simply remove the “doner kebab pack” from its packaging and put it in the oven for twelve minutes.

The result supposedly comes with everything that makes a good kebab: chicken, red cabbage, white cabbage, iceberg lettuce, onion, tomato and sauce, as “Kebab Pack” inventor Mustafa Demirkürek

told

Bild.de.

The kebab is one of the most popular fast food dishes in Germany.

At Rewe and Edeka it will soon also be sold as a baked version.

Demirkürek believes very much in his invention and has registered a worldwide patent for his “Kebab Bake”.

Some supermarket chains are also turning to oven kebab: Rewe and Edeka have already included kebab in their product range.

Doner kebab from the freezer: Reddit users demand a “free slap” for buyers and complain about “warm salad”

However, the world may not be ready for this revolutionary step yet.

At least on the social media platform Reddit, emotions are running high.

“If you buy this for 6.99 euros, you should get a free slap in the face at the checkout,” says one user in anger under the post.

Another sees a “self-hatred in the dough” in the purchasing behavior of those who reach for the oven kebab.

Of course, there is also criticism of the content of the oven kebab.

This mainly refers to the physical law that when you heat the kebab, the salad is inevitably heated too.

By the time this happens, most Reddit users will have their oven turned off.

“Warm salad... I take my kebabs apart when I warm them up,” one jokes.

Many people are completely at a loss for words and react with the vomiting emoji.

The inventor has been working on his baked kebab for over 16 years - and gives the date for the start of sales

As Demirkürek revealed to

thüringen24.de

, the oven kebab is not a quick fix.

He has been working on his special kebab for over 16 years: “I have changed the product again and again and let people try it.” And he also reveals when the culinary cultural revolution will finally begin: production should be over at the end of February company Alzarro Dönerworld, said the 52-year-old.

From March onwards, the oven kebab will be available at Edeka and Rewe in Berlin, East Germany and Bavaria.

The inventor of the baked kebab promised that the “salad stays crisp” and “the aroma is distributed throughout the whole kebab”.

He gave future buyers of the new product another preparation tip: “I recommend baking the kebab in the oven.

But it works in the microwave too.” It remains to be seen whether supermarket customers will react as euphorically to the new kebab from the refrigerated section as its creator.

The doner kebab has always been a source of inspiration for chefs.

A snack bar operator from Upper Palatinate caused a sensation a few weeks ago with his Leberkas kebab.
