Ranked #1 among Reddit readers is “The Haunted House” by Isabel Allende

For me, the crystal clear winner this year is Isabel Allende with “The Haunted House”.

On the one hand, because it gave me a closer look at the history of a country, which I always found somewhat interesting, and on the other hand, because it created a very special world both in terms of narrative and its characters.

Isabel Allende's new novel “The Wind Knows My Name” will also be published in April 2024.

2nd place Andy Weir with “The Astronaut”

Incredibly good, with some completely unexpected twists.

3rd place “11.12.63” by Stephen King

I hadn't read anything by him in a long time and had forgotten how captivating long, detailed descriptions of the environment can be.

I really enjoyed following the protagonists for a long time.

4th place “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” by VE Schwab

In 1714, a young woman made a pact with the devil.

Immortality at the price of oblivion.

She remembers her entire life, but no one can remember her until she meets a young man in modern-day New York who doesn't forget her.

A beautiful combination of the events of the last 300 years, a bit of love history and a lot of love for life.

5th place “Real Age” by Tonio Schachinger

In my opinion, “Real Age” absolutely deserved to win the German Book Prize.
