The Strasbourg municipal council, Monday February 5, promises to be electric.
From the Republicans to the Socialist Party, including Renaissance and Horizons, the opposition is protesting against the new budget cuts by the environmentalist mayor Jeanne Barseghian which are hitting the cultural sector.
After the museums, the Opéra national du Rhin (ONR) and the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra (OPS) are in the sights.
Both institutions saw their municipal subsidies drop by 2.5%.
From 2023 for the Opera and from 2024 for the orchestra.
In mid-January, a delegation of musicians accompanied by the first bassoonist Rafael Angster was received by Jeanne Barseghian.

We do not doubt her sincerity when she says her attachment to the orchestra, but came away without any guarantee of its sustainability
,” worries the CGT representative.
A leaflet, signed by all the musicians, will be distributed to spectators these days.
