A piece of Italy from the oven at home: that's what the frozen pizza promises.
Real professionals test the classics - and demystify a trick used by the producers.
Munich – Whether after a hard day at work or on a relaxing Sunday, sometimes you don't really want to cook.
In moments like these, you like to reach for frozen pizza.
Or for connoisseurs simply CPM.
Four Italian kitchen professionals have chosen a selection of this classic.
Their final verdict is partly devastating.
The tasting takes place on the
WDR
program Servicezeit .
Two cooking teachers and two chefs examine five frozen pizzas, all of the Quattro Formaggi variety – i.e. with four types of cheese.
A variant of the dough dish in which the choice of ingredients is crucial.
A criterion that should not be underestimated, as becomes apparent during the tasting.
Quattro Formaggi frozen pizzas tested by cooking professionals - they weren't very enthusiastic
The first candidate is Dr. Pizza.
Oetker.
“It doesn’t look so bad,” says one of the testers.
The bubbles in the dough and the thick edge are particularly impressive.
First point of criticism: The professionals don't like the amount of sugar in the sauce.
But that's not all.
“I’m disappointed,” says one tester, picking at the toppings on the pizza, “it’s not cheese.”
But what is it then?

The professional chef suspects a mixture of cream, cream cheese and spices.
This mix looks like blue cheese, like the Gorgonzola essential for the original, but it has little to do with it.
According to the list of ingredients, Dr.
Oetker however Gorgonzola.
Even when it comes to the variant of good and cheap, there is agreement: It can't be Gorgonzola.
One of the cooks thinks it's some kind of cream.
Edeka states that it uses soft cheese with blue mold for pizza.
Where Dr.
Oetker was able to score points with the dough, but Gut und Günstig only received raised eyebrows.
“This is a bread,” says one tester succinctly.
“That sounds a bit like a cookie,” says another as he works on the ready-made meal with the pizza roller.

The experts are also not impressed with the next candidate, the Original Wagner stone oven pizza.
“It’s a Frisbee,” one of the chefs jokes – that probably says it all about the quality of the dough.

In the end, only a frozen pizza can convince the gastronomy experts.
It has the promising name “Four Cheeses for a Hallelujah” from the Gustavo Gusto brand.
When this is served up, the faces of all the testers light up.
A successful crust, a good tomato sauce: “Highlight,” says one of the professionals.
But what about the cheese?
“It tastes like Gorgonzola!” says a chef happily.
And she is also generally enthusiastic about the Hallelujah pizza: “You could also eat it in Italy!” Accordingly, this variant was unanimously declared the winner by all four.
It certainly wasn't too difficult to choose what was apparently the only one with a real Gorgonzola taste as the winner.
But manufacturers can do a lot wrong not only with ready-made pizza, but also with ready-made dough.
