"The Hungarian authorities are willing to grant house arrest to Ilaria Salis only after the sentence".

This is the opinion of the 39-year-old's Hungarian lawyer, Gyorgy Magyar, based on the practice followed in the past by the judicial authority in similar cases.

The trial - she recalled on the phone with ANSA - has been adjourned until May 24th.

The lawyer, however, said he was skeptical about the hypothesis of house arrest in the premises of the Italian embassy in Budapest, given that Salis does not have a domicile in the Hungarian capital.

"No example is known here for such a solution," he explained.

“They are slowly meeting my needs, but I still feel sick and would like to go home.”

These are her words, reported by Corriere della Sera, spoken yesterday by Ilaria Salis to her Hungarian lawyer, Gyorgy Magyar, who went to visit her in the prison in the center of Budapest where she has been imprisoned for almost a year.

The lawyer then explains: "Ilaria is tired but morally very strong, and continues to resist. She is currently in a cell with seven other inmates, but the cleanliness and hygiene conditions have improved. The Hungarian authorities have understood the situation and are responding to her requests. requests and requests from Italy".

"It's true, thanks to what Italy has done, something is changing these days", Ilaria confided to the lawyer Magyar, as reported by Repubblica.

However, the teacher underlined: "I'm sick, help me get out of this place."

Tajani: 'Ilaria Salis' lawyers ask for house arrest in Hungary, we are ready'

 "Ilaria Salis' lawyers

must ask for house arrest in Hungary

, a request which, up to now, they have not made. This is not up to us."

Thus the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, on the sidelines of a Forza Italia event in the Milan area.

"First we must obtain house arrest in Hungary, and this is the fundamental point, after which we must ask for house arrest in Italy. Only once house arrest is granted, if there is a request from the lawyer, can we ask to have house arrest in Italy" he added, underlining that "we are ready to do whatever is needed".

"Ilaria Salis' father - explained the Foreign Minister - has asked to meet me and I will tell him what in my opinion should be done at this moment. I agree with what he said in an interview, we must not transform a judicial matter into a political fact".

"If it turns into a political event, the interest of the detained person is not served. Instead, we must work in accordance with the law - added Tajani - not to make it a political controversy. It seems to me that the father understood well what the problem".

The lawyer: 'Our request remains for house arrest in Italy'

"Our request remains house arrest in Italy and, at the moment,

we exclude asking for them in Hungary

, but we will evaluate everything and see on Monday what they propose."

this is what the lawyer Eugenio Losco, who defends Ilaria Salis, told ANSA, and who will be in Rome on Monday for the meeting with the foreign ministers Antonio Tajani and justice ministers Carlo Nordio together with Roberto Salis, the father of the 39-year-old Milanese detained for almost a year in Budapest.

As regards the possibility that he will serve house arrest in a branch of the Italian embassy in Budapest, "I am not able to give an opinion - continued the lawyer - We evaluate everything compared to prison, but the embassy enjoys extraterritoriality and, if they can be done there, then they can also be done in Italy."

"The idea of serving the arrests in the embassy must be applied in the 2009 Framework Decision of the European Council which we believe is applicable precisely to Ilaria's case and we continue to believe that it allows her to request the application of the precautionary measure in Italy precisely to do not create discrimination between defendants", concluded lawyer Losco.
