B&Bs "are the new frontier of youth and female businesses".
According to data from Unioncamere and Infocamere, it is also "thanks to a year, 2023, of strong growth in accommodation for tourists as an alternative to hotels: 3,508 more companies operating in the panorama of holiday homes, guest houses and residences (+11.5% compared to to 2022), almost 2 thousand of which were born from the initiative of under 35s or women".
From the in-depth analysis, based on data from the business register, "businesses managed by young people increased by 13.7% in 2023 (+575), reaching 4,782. On the other hand, there are 1,469 more female businesses dealing with hospitality alternative to the hotel industry, with an increase compared to 2022 of 11% which brings the total to 14,726 companies led by women".
At a geographical level, "the holiday accommodation sector is growing throughout Italy, but there are 11 regions that exceed the national average (+11.5%), with Emilia Romagna, Campania, Lombardy, Sardinia and Marche in the leading positions.
In absolute terms, B&Bs and holiday homes increase above all in Campania and Puglia, followed by Lombardy, Lazio and Sicily. Naples, Rome and Bari are the provinces with the greatest absolute increase in the non-hotel hospitality sector: +495 in capital of Campania, +284 in the capital, +196 in Bari. Followed by Salerno, Bologna and Milan. In percentage terms, the greatest increase is recorded in Rovigo, with 11 more companies and a growth of 35%. Followed by Bologna (+ 119, +30%) and Lecco (+29, +29.6%)".
