An offer at Media Markt causes confusion among customers.

The price of a television has 14 decimal places.

Kassel – Retailers continue to lure consumers into their stores with offers and big discount campaigns.

It is not uncommon for remaining stock and individual items to be sold.

Such an offer now led to questioning faces at Media Markt.

Just recently, a desperate Rewe notice caused a stir.

14 digits after the decimal point: note at Media Markt raises questions

A Reddit user became aware of this and promptly shared a picture of the notice on the platform.

A TV from Philips is advertised on it.

Instead of the original recommended retail price (RRP), the television is now only available for 223,992 euros.

The decimal places in the offer are particularly confusing.

The new price has three decimal places instead of the usual two decimal places.

The RRP even has 14 decimal places at 279.99000000000001 euros.

“Found a great, logical offer at MediaMarkt” is all the customer can think of.

Notice at Media Markt causes confusion: “Astonishing”

The notice on Media Markt quickly leads to a discussion on Reddit.

Some users seem to be surprised by the many numbers.

“It's extra funny (not to mention amazing) that someone actually printed out this piece of paper, looked at it, thought it was good and stuck it up,” said one.

“The ink from the printer wasn’t worth this level of accuracy,” noted another.

These are probably “floating point numbers according to the IEEE 754 standard,” explained one user – i.e. the representation of a number using exponential notation in computers.

Let's hope that the unusual price doesn't cause confusion at the checkout.

It remains to be seen whether customers will then have to pay 223.99 or 224 euros.

In Berlin, however, a balcony love story brought the neighbors to the scene.
