A Jewish couple from Queens, New York, claims their family was unfairly kicked off a JetBlue flight to New York because they are Orthodox Jews, according to a $40 million lawsuit against the airline.
Michael Nektalov, 42 years old, his wife Miriam Yoshnaev and their five children returned from a vacation from the island of Aruba on February 4, 2021, during the Corona period, when they and another Jewish family were taken off the plane.
The couple were dressed according to "the custom of our religious community," including a headdress for Miriam and a long beard and a cap for Michael, and also spoke Hebrew from time to time, according to the suit in federal court in Brooklyn, as published in the New York Post.

of the couple who felt "uncomfortable" and said they knew that "somehow trouble would arise", after Jet Blue employees gave them "contemptuous and dirty looks", according to the lawsuit in court .
Just before take off, the plane went back to the gate.
When Nektalov's wife asked one of the flight attendants what was going on, "all they told her was, 'Oh, your mask slipped off your nose,'" according to the legal file, "and then he booked her seat."
The mother was then taken off the plane after being falsely accused of not wearing a face mask, her family claimed, while another Jewish family was also asked to leave.

Company spokesperson: "We will work to fully understand the facts of what happened"
When the Jewish families asked why they were being taken off the plane, a Jet Blue employee allegedly announced "loudly" that if "we don't all get off the plane, all the passengers will have to be taken off the plane."
"At that moment, I felt as if we were in Nazi Germany, and that we were being isolated, slandered, and were being slandered so that we would get off the plane," Nektalov claimed in the lawsuit filed on January 26.
A JetBlue spokesman said the company had not yet reviewed the claim.
"We will not tolerate discrimination of any kind at Jet Blue and we take any allegations like these seriously, and we will work to fully understand the facts of what happened in this event," said spokesman Derek Dombrowski.
