Serbia, without Novak Djokovic, failed to qualify for the group stage of the Davis Cup finals for the first time.
Slovakia won 3-0 in qualifying: doubles duo Lukas Klein and Igor Zelenay won the decisive point with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 victory over Nikola Caci and Miomir Kecmanovic.
Celebration for the Slovaks: "We haven't qualified for too many years but we finally did it," said Zelenay.
Alex Molcan, who won second singles on Friday, added: "We knew it would be difficult against the Serbs in their country. I'm happy to win two matches today."
Disappointment for the Serbs who were confident of qualifying for the final phase and then being able to field Djokovic.
