In these sad days it is nice to be comforted by happy news, and here is one such: "Theodore", the original opera composed by Yonatan Canaan based on a libretto by Ido Riklin, who also directed the production at the Israeli Opera, was chosen as one of the seven best productions of 2023 in the list of the year's picks of "OPERA" magazine NOW" international.

Among the reasons for the choice: "The world premiere of the opera 'Theodore' leaves you involved emotionally, intellectually and spiritually - along with the impressive singing, the convincing acting, the precise libretto and the intuitive and bewitching music."

"Theodore" had its world premiere in May 2023 and will soon be shown in the cinema as well.
The opera tells the story of the early Herzl, even before he conceived the idea of the Jewish state, while skipping between two periods of his life: the 21-year-old student Herzl in Vienna (1881) and the 35-year-old adult Herzl, covering as a journalist the Dreyfus trial in Paris (1895) .
