It turns out that nicknames between family members are also assimilated when it comes to the British royal family.

So what did we discover?

It turns out that

the late Prince Philip

had a nickname (quite disgusting it should be noted) for

Meghan Markle

.

According to an excerpt from a soon-to-be-published book by royal biographer Ingrid Seward - one of the most prominent and respected writers in the British royal family, with more than a dozen books on the subject to her credit.

Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth who died in 2021 at the age of 99, allegedly called Markle the "Duchess of Windsor" in a particularly sarcastic reference to the title held by the disgraced American socialite Wallis Simpson.

A quick history lesson for those struggling: Simpson was an American divorcee who married Edward VIII in 1937 after he abdicated the British throne due to a dispute, from where the crown passed to George (the father of Queen Elizabeth II who you all probably know).

According to the author in her new book, Philip thought it was "amazing" how much Markle reminded him of Wallis Simpson.

"He didn't just mean the fact that they were both divorced American women, but also pencil-thin, dark-haired and glamorous."

Remember that like Simpson, Markle also enjoyed the status of 'divorced' before meeting Prince Harry in 2016, the former actress was married to American film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 until their separation in 2014.

As you may remember, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to take a few steps back from their seniority in the royal family in January 2020 and currently live with their two children Archie and their daughter Lilyba in a mansion in Santa Barbara, California.

Their choice to leave England was reminiscent of Edward VIII's decision to abdicate the British throne and flee to France with Simpson.

Royal experts have previously noted that Harry is also quite similar to Edward VIII more than he can imagine, "They both radiated the same sadness after severing their ties with the family. You can tell how they felt just by looking into their eyes."
