Proper ventilation can prevent mold formation.

But special measures are required in the bedroom - the tip of an energy consultant.

Proper ventilation reduces the humidity in the living spaces and thus prevents mold from forming on the walls.

How to ventilate properly depends, among other things, on the temperature, but also on the rooms that are to be ventilated.

Why you need to ventilate differently in the bedroom

In the bedroom, for example, the risk of mold forming is particularly high.

The reason: the room temperatures here are often relatively low and the humidity is high.

No wonder, after all, we spend around eight hours a day here.

The body loses up to 700 milliliters of sweat every night.

However, this moisture ends up not only in the air, but also in the duvet, pillow and mattress.

This is also the reason why airing the bedroom once in the morning is not enough.

In order to effectively get rid of the high humidity in the bedroom, energy consultant Ramona Ballod from the Thuringia Consumer Center recommends that you always ventilate the bedroom twice - and do so

shortly after.

In this way, the humidity in the bedroom can be effectively reduced, the expert explains to

Ventilating the bedroom – here’s how to do it correctly:

And this is how double ventilation works in the bedroom:

  • First airing:

Before airing the room for the first time in the morning, you should first turn down the heating so as not to use up energy unnecessarily.

    Then open the window.

If the outside temperature is cold, you should ventilate for about five minutes.

The cold, moist air is replaced by dry outside air.

  • Break:

Then there is a ventilation break of around 20 minutes.

The fresh, dry air now absorbs the residual moisture that continues to be secreted by the duvet, mattress, etc.

  • Second ventilation:

Then the second shock ventilation follows.

The (now again) moist air is directed outside.

After airing, turn the heater back on.

    Tips for proper ventilation

Of course, just ventilating in the morning is not enough.

    The

    consumer advice center

recommends opening the windows wide at least three to four times a day.

Ideally, you should cross-ventilate, i.e. open opposite windows and doors to create a draft.

This means that the air in the rooms is completely exchanged.

In winter, when temperatures are below zero, five minutes of ventilation are enough; in spring and autumn it can be ten to 20 minutes.
