A sanctuary publishes an emotional story: it is the touching encounter between two rescued cows.

The Instagram video moves thousands of users to tears.

At Uncle Neil's Home, rescued animals are allowed to spend their twilight years in peace and quiet.

For many cows, the sanctuary in New Jersey is the first loving home in their lives - and usually the last.

Just like for the two dairy cows Helen and Margaret.

Love at first sight, “when Helen met Margaret”

Cows can have best friends.

They prefer these and treat them particularly lovingly.

Signs of a deep cow friendship include mutual licking, especially between cow friends, as well as eating and resting together.

One study found that cows recognized other familiar cows in photos and then ran to them.

“Helen, a blind cow, was rescued from a dairy farm after 19 years,” writes @uncleneilshome at the beginning of the touching video.

When they arrived at the sanctuary, they looked for a companion for her - and finally found Margaret.

The elderly cow lady was also rescued from a dairy farm after 17 years.

From the moment the sanctuary staff saw a photo of Margaret, they knew the two were meant to be together.

A rescued cow with calves can't stop kissing her hero.

How lucky we are to have the privilege of knowing such beautiful, gentle souls.

May each of their days be filled with nothing but joy, fulfillment and each other.

Finally, the big moment follows: “And then Helen and Margaret met at the sanctuary,” says @uncleneilshome.

The two immediately understood each other and “love each other very much.” Now they are finally free and from now on they will only experience love.

In the description under the emotional clip, the sanctuary writes that the two gave birth to at least 26 calves in total, "which have now undoubtedly died." Helen and Margaret therefore only survived because their bodies were able to survive into their teens to produce enough milk to be considered profitable and valuable.
