A sort of gospel mass to remember the music stars who passed away in 2023. A memory that is not at all sappy, but full of energy, in the Inmemoriam segment at the 66th edition of the Grammys in Los Angeles.

Stevie Wonder began with a lively rendition of ForOnce in My Life in homage to his dear friend and great crooner Tony Bennett who died in July.

The pace slowed down with Annie Lennox who performed Nothing Compares 2 U in honor of Sinead O'Connor, the Irish singer and activist who died on 26 July.

In keeping with O'Connor's fighting spirit, Lennox concluded her performance with a plea: "Artists for ceasefire - world peace."

The tribute continued with Jon Batiste - the only man nominated this year in the three strongest categories of the awards, Best Album, Best Recording and Best Song - who took to the piano to play Ain't No Sunshine and Lean on me by Bill Withers.

Fantasia Barrino closed the sequence dedicated to the disappearances of 2023. The singer and actress (she is Celie in the film adaptation of the musical The Color Purple produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg in 2023) made those present dance with an explosive version of Proud Mary by Tina Turner, who passed away in last May.
