A 32-year-old from New York sued his ex-wife for forcing their son to undergo gender reassignment therapy • "I didn't realize that when he was in his mother's care, he was actually a girl named Ruby"

Dennis Hannon, a 32-year-old software engineer from New York, claims that his ex-wife forced their young son to change his gender and become a girl, despite the son's protests that he did not want it.

In an interview with the New York Post, the father said that a long seven-year legal battle ended with him losing authority over his son's medical care.

He said the fight began when his ex-wife, Amy Hannon, began dressing their then 3-year-old son in girls' clothes, but she hid it from him.

According to him, every time he picked up his son for visits, he was dressed like a son.

"I didn't realize that when he was in his mother's care, he was actually a girl named Ruby," Hannon said.

The realization came when he received a message from the kindergarten that referred to his son as "Ruby Rose Hannon."

"It was a unilateral gender change of my child," he said.

"I had nothing to say."

According to him, his ex brought his son to a gender therapist who recommended taking hormones at the age of nine.

Denis decided to sue his wife to stop the unnecessary treatment he claims.

"My son was never diagnosed with gender dysphoria," he said.

The New York Post reached out to Amy for comment, but she said she did not want to go into details.

"It's not as simple as my ex makes it seem. There are two sides to every story. The amount of his lies is shocking. The child is what's important here."

Dennis said the long court battle has cost him about $150,000 and while he still has visitation rights, he has no say in any medical decisions regarding his son.

"I lost my medical certificate. I lost custody. I lost $150,000 in legal fees. But I saved my son," he said.

A year after the court battle ended, he says the 9-year-old is living happily as a son.

"Suddenly he has no desire to be a girl," said Hanon, adding that he is trying to get custody.

"He never wanted to be a girl, it was an illusion his mother pushed on him. No one ever considered the psychological impact that a five-year-old boy's gender transition has. They started treatment before he was even diagnosed. I will always love my son and whoever he wants to be. to be. But it wasn't his choice. It was forced on him."
