For about four servings of casserole you will need:

  • 350 g pasta (e.g. penne or fusili)

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • 100 g grated cheese (e.g. mozzarella or Gouda)

  • 250 ml cream

  • 250 ml vegetable broth

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 3 tbsp flour

  • Nutmeg (grated)

  • salt and pepper

  • Optionally dried herbs, chili flakes, etc.

Baking the broccoli pasta casserole is so quick and easy

  • Wash broccoli and tomatoes thoroughly.

    Cut the broccoli into florets and halve the tomatoes.

    Peel the onion and garlic and chop finely.

  • Cook pasta according to package instructions in a large pot of boiling salted water.

    Five minutes before draining, add the broccoli to the pasta and let it cook.

    Then drain and rinse with cold water.

    While the oven is preheating to 180 degrees top and bottom heat, grease the baking dish with a little butter or oil.

  • The next step is to prepare the sauce.

    To do this, heat some butter in a small pot and sauté the diced onion and garlic for a few minutes.

    Sauté the flour while stirring constantly and then pour in the vegetable stock and cream.

    Stir with a whisk to form a lump-free sauce, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg and simmer for about five minutes.

  • Now add the cooked pasta, broccoli and tomatoes to the greased baking dish.

    Pour the sauce over everything and sprinkle the grated cheese on top.

    Bake the casserole on the middle shelf in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
