You can save money when buying remaining stock and individual items in retail stores.
But an offer from Media Markt raises question marks.
Munich – Especially in times of inflation, consumers are looking for one or two bargains.
But it is not uncommon for customers to be left confused when they see offers.
Even an attentive customer at Media Markt would have had a similar experience.
“Great, logical offer” – note at Media Markt confuses customers
The retail chain recently offered huge discounts with “up to 70 percent off the RRP”.
To be more precise, it was a Philips brand television that was supposed to be sold as a remaining stock in a branch.
A photo of the note with the offer was promptly published on Reddit.
However, the notice usually did not appear.
If you take a closer look, you will notice that the recommended retail price (RRP) does not contain two decimal places as usual - but a whole 14. "Found a great, logical offer at MediaMarkt," says the Media Markt customer.
Media Markt also recently drew attention with a “Mystery Box”.
Notice at Media Markt causes discussion: “Finally transparent pricing”
Meanwhile, the discounted price also has three decimal places.
And it doesn't take long until the first Reddit users react to the offer and a lively discussion ensues.
“How does that actually work?” asks one user.
“These are floating point numbers according to the IEEE 754 standard,” is another possible answer.
This is the representation of a number using exponential notation in computers.
“If you don't honor the 0.0000000000001 cent, you're not worth the euro,” jokes one user.
“Finally fair and transparent pricing!” praises another.
But it's not just the Media Markt notice that causes questioning faces.
An offer from Edeka may also have caused confusion.
An item offer in a Kaufland brochure, on the other hand, probably didn't stop the phone from standing still.
