RTVE, the Spanish public broadcasting group, intends to explain to the rest of Europe that a word that everyone in Spain considers an insult (a synonym for "prostitute" or more vulgarly "slut") does not mean that… “vixen”.
As Eurovision prohibits swear words, Spanish TV has planned to take refuge behind the first acceptance of "zorra", the zoological one, to defend the song of the same name, chosen by the public and which must represent the country in the musical competition.
“If you look at “zorra” in the Dictionary of the Spanish Academy
, defended the communication director of RTVE,
its definition is very clear, and we consider that the lyrics of the song are completely compatible with the current regulations.”

The Academy Dictionary begins by mentioning a
“canid mammal less than a meter long, tail included…”
but specifies, in its fourth meaning, concisely: “prostitute”.
