The damage caused by left-wing militants during last week's demonstrations in Congress Square in Buenos Aires against the approval of the omnibus law amounts to 107 million pesos - around six million euros.
The mayor, Jorge Macri, made this known by taking stock of the damage caused by the acts of vandalism.
"The violence of a few costs us dearly and they will pay," said Macri, underlining the economic and social impact of the damage, which mainly concerns street furniture and the cleaning up of graffiti.
"We are committed to rehabilitating the affected area and returning it to the state that the people of Buenos Aires deserve. Violence - highlighted the mayor - is not the right path and we will not allow a few to undermine the peace we so seek in our city" .
