The Department of Penitentiary Administration did not authorize the presentation, in the San Vittore prison in Milan, of the book written by the former prime minister and president emeritus of the constitutional court, Giuliano Amato, and by the journalist Donatella Stasio, entitled 'Stories of rights and democracy.

The constitutional court in society'.

This is reported by the organizers themselves, who report having received a series of motivations informally.

"24 hours before the event they told us that this was not part of and was not foreseen in the already approved training programs - explain the organizers - furthermore that adequate notice had not been provided. Finally we were told that the cancellation would not it would be definitive but a reformulation of the request for the event would be needed, which would then possibly be included in the program of treatment paths".

The Guarantor of prisoners' rights: 'Embarrassing decision, the Dap explains'

"Wonder and embarrassment" for the "unforeseen decision arrived 24 hours after the event" not to grant authorization for the presentation of the book written by Giuliano Amato together with the journalist Donatella Stasio, scheduled for tomorrow in the San Vittore prison in Milan, was expressed by the Guarantor of Milan prisoners Francesco Maisto.

It is a decision, Maisto explained in a note, for which "we do not know the official reasons, nor can we believe - in the absence of clarifications although requested repeatedly - that it depends on organizational factors (such as the timing of the authorization request or the nature of the book since it talks about the Constitution)".

"We apologize to the public and we will continue to ask the Dap to account for this improvident decision", Maisto's note continues.

President Amato's book "represents the ideal continuation of the 'Journey of the Court in the prisons' - continued Maisto in the note - following which the training project for prisoners called 'Constitution Viva' was born in San Vittore, with which the authors of the book have maintained a bond and with whom they would have dialogued on this occasion too."

"We remain disconcerted - continues the Milanese guarantor of the rights of prisoners - by the refusal of the Dap to revoke the denial also out of respect for the President Emeritus of the Constitutional Court, the Heads of the Milanese Judicial Offices, the Authorities, the citizens, the media, in the process to participate and, above all, of the prisoners and the authors of the book who worked on the preparation of the meeting and who had also organized themselves logistically".

Mirabelli: 'Nordio clarify the no to Amato's book'

"We will ask the reason why the Dap prohibited the presentation of Giuliano Amato's book in San Vittore with an urgent question to Minister Nordio. But the choice of the Dap is worrying and, above all, it would be serious if it were linked to the merit of the presentation or worse for the speakers".

Senator Franco Mirabelli, vice-president of the Pd group, wrote this in a post on Facebook.
