Three years after the delicious “Operation Portugal”, which recorded 450,000 admissions, here is “Operation Portugal 2”.
Or the return of D'Jal, a comedian of Moroccan origin who broke through on stage thanks to his hilarious imitations of the Portuguese accent.
In the first film, he played Hakim, a police officer of North African origin forced to infiltrate the Portuguese community for an investigation.
Along the way, he fell madly in love with Julia, a pretty Lusitanian.
In this sequel, still directed by Frank Cimière, Hakim prepares to marry Julia, to the despair of his own mother and the grandmother of the fiancée.
But he finds himself forced to do it again: he must pose as a Portuguese (Joakim, therefore) to a count, who is also a crooked promoter, to steal his contracts because of which several families risk being ruined...
We sometimes smile at D'Jal's dejection and his fake Portuguese accent, which transforms "welcome" into "acouille" and "queue-leu-leu" into "cououlou".
We even have fun when Abu Dhabi becomes “Abou Dabite”… Less when Frisbee is called “Frisbite”.
Because that’s the problem with this “Operation Portugal 2”: the gags are so hammered out that they become indigestible.
The joke about the Muslim who doesn't want to eat pork is worn out to death, like that of the count's wife who harasses Joakim.
And we don't count the fights that follow one another... until the last one, totally crazy, in wheelbarrows.
In this senseless scenario, the bad puns come in a flurry ("His account is good. Well no, the count, he's not good, he's bad", "What is a homosexual pig "He's a gay pig."
