According to information from Sud Ouest, a case of tuberculosis was spotted in a nursery school in the town of Libourne, in Gironde.
In a letter received on January 30, parents at the Garderose school learned that one of the teachers had been diagnosed as carrying the disease, indicates Le Figaro.
“To date, there is no risk of contagiousness,” the letter would specify.
However, some students, having been in contact with the sick teacher, are likely to be affected by the Koch bacillus bacteria, which is transmitted through the air.
In accordance with the recommendations of the High Council of Public Health, these children will soon be screened.
This will require a chest x-ray.
Screening of upcoming students
This screening is coordinated by the Bordeaux anti-tuberculosis center.
An information meeting was held this Tuesday, with the parents of the students.
In the meantime, parents are urged to remain vigilant for the characteristic symptoms of tuberculosis: unusual cough;
night sweats ;
unexplained fatigue and weight loss.
For the first time in 2021, the number of deaths from tuberculosis increased again in Europe.
According to WHO figures, the disease killed 27,300 Europeans that year, compared to 27,000 the year before.
Since 2007, the BCG vaccine, which protects children from tuberculosis, is no longer compulsory.
