The “Salt Chip Challenge” is going viral on social media.

Influencers appear choking and shaking while eating it.

Consumer advocates warn.

Munich – Just recently, a dangerous test of courage went viral online: the so-called “Hot Chip Challenge”.

Teenagers and young adults filmed themselves eating an extremely spicy tortilla chip on TikTok and Instagram.

A challenge for some, the trend ended with a visit to the hospital for others.

Eventually, sales of the chip were stopped.

Now the makers are trying it again with the “Salt Chip Challenge”.

Is she just as dangerous?

“Salt Chip Challenge”: New dangerous trend on social media with green tortilla chips is making the rounds

On the Mac UG company website, the tortilla chip is described as “possibly the saltiest chip in the world”.

The breading can be felt “not just on the tongue, but bit by bit throughout the entire body.”

Sweat, tears and an unforgettable experience are promised.

As soon as the green chip is on the market, the first influencers try it out straight away.

The single, triangular tortilla chip comes in a blue package with a rubber glove inside.

This is intended to intensify the taste experience even further.

When you take it out of its packaging, the cracker is bright green and slightly thicker than a conventional tortilla chip from the bulk pack.

Influencer Ronny Bergers describes: “It smells like dough.” And further: “It’s not crunchy at all.

That’s play dough!” You can then see him putting the salty tortilla chip in his mouth.

A little later his face turns red, he shakes, tears well up in his eyes - and he finally has to run to the tap.

His tongue?

Colored completely green.

Bergers describes his eating experience as follows: “You couldn’t swallow it.

And when I wanted to swallow – the tube closed like that.”

Gagging and green sauce with the “Salt Chip Challenge” – extremely salty chip is dangerous for small children

Something similar can be observed with other influencers such as Ryan Eats, who tests various products in front of the camera.

He gags, says, “I can’t move,” and spits out the green residue.

Appetizing and tasty definitely looks different.

And the whole thing also has its price: the product is available on the website for 14.99 euros plus shipping.

Many users are concerned in the comments.

For example, it says “Something like that is so harmful!” or “Totally crazy”.

Other users are also interested and want to know more.

Meanwhile, consumer advocates are already warning: The salty chip can be life-threatening for small children and can cause nausea or headaches in adults.

However, it is clearly stated on the website: The chip may only be eaten from the age of 16.

Consumer advocates are warning about the salty tortilla chip trend challenge

The individual cracker has a salt content of 40 percent, which is about two grams of salt.

That in turn is a third of the recommended daily dose of six grams. There is no recall like the Hot Chip Challenge, but consumer advocates explain: Anyone who eats the chip will definitely be very thirsty afterwards.

They therefore recommend that you always have a glass of water ready.

A single consumption would not cause any physical harm to adults, but the daily dose of six grams should not be exceeded.

Because too much salt can increase blood pressure and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Salt chip provider MAC UG has

not yet responded to a request from

IPPEN.MEDIA .

Dangerous tests of courage occur again and again on social media: For example, there was already the “blackout challenge”, in which you had to hold your breath in front of the camera until you fainted.

Less dangerous - but even more annoying - was another strange TikTok trend that probably wanted to cancel cinema screenings.
