The first frost not only heralds the time for soothing dishes, but also the kale season, which tastes just like it used to with this traditional recipe.
Once upon a time, the best winter had to offer came from Grandma's kitchen.
While the frost crackled on the windows outside, aromas unfolded inside that warmed every heart.
The star among the winter dishes was without a doubt the kale - according to Grandma's unsurpassed secret recipe.
Deeply rooted in family tradition, this dish is a tribute to the simplicity and richness of country life.
Kale, once known as simple farm food, is becoming a closely guarded recipe passed down from generation to generation.
With ingredients that can be found in every village shop and grandma's instinct, a simple cabbage becomes a feast, as these varied recipes with different types of cabbage show.
Just as kale only develops its true sweetness under the first frost, this dish only really develops its flavors on the stove of patience and love.
Kasseler and Pinkel traditionally go well with kale.
A German recipe with tradition.

It's so easy to prepare kale according to grandma's secret recipe:
In a large pot, melt the lard over medium heat.
Add the onions and sauté until translucent.
Add the bacon and cook until it becomes slightly crispy.
Do the same with the Kasseler.
Then add the kale over the fried mixture.
Sauté briefly until it falls apart slightly.
Then deglaze with hot meat broth and sprinkle in the potato cubes.
As soon as the mixture is gently simmering, add the oat flakes as a binding agent.
Season with sugar, salt, pepper and mustard.
Bring everything to the boil and simmer over low heat for at least an hour and a half.
Towards the end of the cooking time, season with vinegar.
Serve hot and enjoy.
