"Ilaria Salis must not be a privileged person and we have not asked ministers Nordio and Tajani for any privileged treatment. It is a question of applying the enormous and giving support to the request to go under house arrest in Italy": this is what the lawyer Eugenio Losco told ANSA, one of the Italian lawyers of Ilaria Salis, the 39-year-old detained for about a year in Budapest on charges of having attacked two neo-Nazi militants, after the meeting which took place yesterday in Rome with ministers Antonio Tajani and Carlo Nordio.
"We will speak with Ilaria to understand the possibility of asking for house arrest in Hungary but she has always opposed it for a question of security and principle. It is her right to have house arrest in Italy and we must also keep in mind the security aspect - she added - Newspapers and Hungarian sites published her photo and address immediately after the events: she is a well-known face and therefore there is also a certain fear about staying in Budapest, the embassy could have protected her a little more."
"Now we will also evaluate the next steps with the Hungarian lawyer", explained the lawyer Losco, adding that it will be up to Ilaria to decide what to do regarding the possible request for house arrest in Hungary.
"We'll talk about it with her - she said - and we'll see, so far she's always opposed it. We can consider making a new request for house arrest in Italy and then we'll see what she tells us. But it's far from simple for a non-resident, it could even be impracticable from the point of view of means and resources, it is very demanding for a person who does not reside in Hungary".
"Now let's focus on the hearing scheduled for February 13th for Marchesi", the other Italian accused of having participated in the attacks that occurred in Hungary.
