"We are ready to make another request" to ask for house arrest, "hoping that the judiciary this time does not reject it".

Ilaria Salis' Hungarian lawyer, Gyorgy Magyarto, tells ANSA.

"Ilaria is a proud anti-fascist who does not want to flee and the judge can be convinced in this sense", he added, specifying that "house arrest in Budapest, from the point of view of the defense's work, would be the best solution" in a a process that promises to be long, with the next hearing at the end of May and the next not before "September".

The lawyer, who supports the defense in the trial at the Municipal Court of Budapest, explained that he understands the reasons of the accused, her family and the Italian lawyers, to let her return to Italy

but, according to him, precautionary surveillance under house arrest in his country would make defense work more difficult.

"It would be better to look for a safe home in Budapest, accepted as such by the Hungarian judiciary and police, with the guarantee of an electronic bracelet against 'the risk of escape'

the reason that led to the refusal of previous requests for house arrest"

, he added specifying that this solution "can ensure continuous contact with the defenders".

The lawyer then confirmed that Salis, at the insistence of the defense, is starting to receive the evidentiary material translated into Italian but - he pointed out - "there is still a long work" to do.

"We no longer expect anything from the State, we have no particular expectations, we have been denied everything and now we must continue to look for solutions independently": this

is what Roberto Salis, the father of Ilaria Salis, the 39-year-old detained by about a year in Budapest on charges of having attacked two neo-Nazi militants, after the meeting which took place yesterday in Rome with ministers Antonio Tajani and Carlo Nordio.

"Ilaria Salis must not be a privileged person and we have not asked ministers Nordio and Tajani for any privileged treatment. It is a question of applying the rules and giving support to the request to go under house arrest in Italy": this is what the lawyer Eugenio Losco, one of the Italian lawyers of Ilaria Salis, the 39-year-old detained for about a year in Budapest on charges of having attacked two neo-Nazi militants, after the meeting which took place yesterday in Rome with ministers Antonio Tajani and Carlo Nordio.

"We will speak with Ilaria to understand the possibility of asking for house arrest in Hungary but she has always opposed it for a question of safety and principle. It is her right to have house arrest in Italy and we must also keep in mind the safety aspect - she said added - Hungarian newspapers and websites published her photo and address immediately after the events: she is a well-known face and therefore there is also a certain fear about staying in Budapest, the embassy could have protected her a little more".
