A private paradise: the founder and former CEO of Google, the American-Jewish billionaire Larry Page, who is known to have a penchant for buying islands around the globe - was recently revealed as the owner of another one, "Cayo Norte", which he managed to keep secret for about 6 years.

According to documents reviewed by Business Insider (an American economic news site), in 2018 Page spent an amount equivalent to approximately 135 million shekels ($32 million) for a large piece of land located in the middle of the sea, east of Puerto Rico in the United States, known for being surrounded by reefs , a haven for sea turtles and full of white sand beaches. The plot of land purchased is almost 300 dunams in size, making it the largest privately owned island in Puerto Rico.

As mentioned, the 50-year-old Page is known to have five islands in total, located on the globe - From the South Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean. The new island he purchased, Cayo Norte, is close to another island he purchased in 2014, for which he paid $23 million in 2014.

What does the billionaire plan to do with the new island?

It is not known what the former CEO, who chose to distance himself from Google and public life in general in 2019, plans to do with the new island he purchased. Residents of the area tell Business Insider that since Page purchased it (in 2018), they have not noticed any signs of development, But some saw helicopters landing there.

Another report from the area also reveals that a number of participants were seen in the favorite activity of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs - plane sailing, which is actually surfing with a special board attached to the plane (that's how it is when you swim in money).

Environmentalists, on the other hand, are keeping their fingers crossed ' will not disturb the nature of Cayo Norte, as it has a high ecological value for the region, and damage to it could disturb the ecosystem of the region.

"Our hope is that Page did not purchase the island as an investment property, to be developed and destroyed," the director of an NGO for coral conservation told Business Insider. "The value of protecting a place like this is to keep it as it is, with all the vegetation there is."
