As soon as the tulips have been in the vase for a few days, are you tempted to throw them away?

With these tips it doesn't have to be that way.

If you want to bring a touch of spring into your home with little effort, you often turn to tulips.

No wonder, because the cut flowers look pretty even in a simple vase and are available in many bright colors.

To extend the flowering period, you can keep a few things in mind.

Sugar, lemon water or even copper coins – there are many supposed home remedies that keep cut flowers fresh for longer.

However, sugar is known to stimulate the growth of bacteria, while there is no connection between the addition of copper coins or lemon water and the freshness of flowers.

Instead, you should heed the following tips:

  • Do not put too much water in the vase: the higher the vase is filled with water, the more they cover the stems and can therefore wilt more quickly.

Just fill the vase with about five centimeters of lukewarm water and change the water regularly.

  • Cut the flowers: It is still not a given for many people to cut the tulips again after buying them.

But this is unavoidable so that the flowers absorb the water optimally and stay fresh for a long time.

However, do not use scissors, as the stems can be crushed, as

    emphasizes.

A sharp knife, which you should place diagonally or straight on the stem, is more suitable.
