“De Grace” on Arte: why the series on the dockers of Le Havre was partly filmed in Belgium

The silhouette of gigantic liners cuts the horizon line, wedged between the sky and the sea. At the dock, machines of equally spectacular dimensions unload thousands of containers, stored one on top of the other in the port.

At their feet, the men seem tiny.

This grandiose setting serves as the backdrop for “De Grace”, a masterful series in six episodes, already available on the free arte.tv platform and broadcast from this Thursday at 8:55 p.m. on the Franco-German channel.

A thrilling thriller, set against a backdrop of drug trafficking and buried secrets, coupled with a family tragedy carried by an excellent cast (Panayotis Pascot, Pierre Lottin, Margot Bancilhon, etc.).

But to tell the story of the docks of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) and the traffic that plagues it, the production had to film, in part, in Antwerp (Belgium).
