According to the Geiger counter of the US thinktank Institute for Science and Internationalsecurity, since May 2023 the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program has increased for the first time to the level of 'Extreme Danger': "Tehran is capable of producing sufficient weapons-grade enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon in a week, using only a fraction of the 60% enriched uranium."
“The volatile situation in the region offers Iran a unique opportunity and amplified domestic justification to build nuclear weapons, while the resources of the United States and Israel to detect and dissuade Iran from doing so are stretched thin,” the think tank writes. on its site.
“Ongoing conflicts are leading to a neglect of Iran's nuclear threat at a time when Iran's capabilities to build nuclear weapons have never been greater. The threat was fueled in part by Hamas' terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, by the subsequent invasion of Gaza and attacks carried out by Iranian-backed groups, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and Ansar Allah (Houthis)".
Analysts at the Institute for Science and Internationalsecurity write that "these serious and worrying changes have led the Institute to increase the threat score to 151 out of 180, compared to 140 in May 2023, rated as Extreme danger: it is the first time that the counter has reached this level."
