The
European Commission
has decided to launch an
infringement procedure against Hungary
regarding the recently approved law "to protect sovereignty".
The community executive announced this in a note.
The provision provides for a sanctions regime for parties that use foreign funds in electoral campaigns, as well as the establishment of a supervisory authority, the Office for the Protection of Sovereignty, which carries out analysis and investigation activities in relation to foreign influences on national sovereignty, including electoral processes, with the aim of "protecting constitutional identity".
