The governor of Puglia Michele Emiliano sent a letter to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and to the Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, proposing that the Region should pay "the debts of Acciaierie d'Italia towards the Taranto related companies: we are willing to make available our liquidity deriving from the restricted surpluses - explains Emiliano - as we did during the pandemic and for the Ukrainian crisis".

The Region therefore reiterates its willingness "to implement ad hoc measures to allow these companies not to go bankrupt, subject to the government's granting of a specific exemption from the State aid regulations, and the authorization by State law for the use of the surplus deriving from the result of administration of the Puglia Region".

For weeks the entrepreneurs of the related industries have been protesting in front of the Taranto factories.

Emiliano highlights the need to "not let these companies go bankrupt as they are not paid by the French-Indian company which leases from the Italian government the branch of company that manages the Taranto steelworks".

"We invest billions of euros of national and European funds to create new production realities - continues Emiliano - and it is not clear why the government should cause the bankruptcy, without doing anything, of the related companies to which the credits are not paid by a company of the which the government itself is a partner".

"If this were the case - he highlights - it would be the second time in a few years in which the government has taken hundreds of millions of euros from Taranto companies by declaring the extraordinary administration of the companies that managed the steelworks on behalf of the Italian State. It would be an unacceptable situation".
