In the event of a new pandemic, “the question of leaving schools open arises”

Make data speak to better prepare for the next pandemic.

This was the objective of researchers from the University and University Hospital of Bordeaux, Inserm and Inria, who estimated the impact of each of the health measures imposed during Covid.

According to their study, published this Tuesday in the journal Epidemics, the first confinement would have reduced the transmission of the virus by 84%, the 8 p.m. curfew by 48% and the closure of schools by “only” 15%.

But other parameters must be taken into account to make such a binding decision.

Rodolphe Thiébaut, professor of public health at the Bordeaux Population Health1 research center and lead author of the study, deciphers the main lessons to be learned from it.
