The British bestselling author Ken Follett stormed to the top of the German bestseller lists with his 5th Kingsbridge novel “The Weapons of Light” shortly after its publication.
In the non-fiction sector, Axel Hacke is still at the forefront with “About the cheerfulness in difficult times and the question of how important the seriousness of life should be to us”.
The master of the historical novel, Ken Follett, managed to take first place on the Spiegel bestseller list with a new book.

For Bastei Lübbe, Ken Follett has been a bestseller guarantee for years and an important factor for the balance sheets that

Drugstore billionaire Dirk Rossmann, who writes climate thrillers, also holds a few percent of Lübbe-Verlag.
According to the publisher, the total circulation of Follett's German books is around 39 million copies.
The previously published four Kingsbridge volumes have sold more than 9 million copies.

What is “The Weapons of Light” about?
In the fifth Kingsbridge novel, set during Britain's industrialization, people witness the introduction of new, often frightening machines that take over tasks previously painstakingly done by hand.
These developments are turning many people's lives upside down.
Ken Follett chose weaving machines and fabric production as central themes in “The Weapons of Light.”
As a result, the social structure between the different social classes begins to waver.
Many ordinary workers are losing their jobs, while the rich and privileged classes are becoming increasingly wealthy.
An industrial change the likes of which the world has never seen before is affecting all of England, including Kingsbridge, and depriving those who work in the yarn and cloth factories of the basis of their existence.
Dangerous new machines are replacing manual labor and tearing families apart.
