He doesn't look back, instead he has his eyes on the future.

At 80, Robert De Niro continues to surprise and in an interview with People he reflects on his career, fatherhood and the future.

He says you always have to be ready and he is ready for whatever life has in store for him.

This philosophy has been a pillar throughout his career.

A path that led him to win two Oscars, in 1975 as best supporting actor in the role of the young Vito Corleone in 'The Godfather - Part II', and in 1981 as best leading actor for playing the boxer Jake LaMotta in the film 'Wild bull'.

Next month, when the 96th edition of the Oscars will be held, De Niro could add another statuette to his collection, the recognition as best supporting actor for Killers of the Flower Moon, the Martin Scorsese film also starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone with 10 nominations.

His age does not represent an obstacle for him and in fact he has no intention of stopping.

"I enjoy my job," he says in the interview.

At the same time he dedicates time to his family and to his latest arrival, little Gia, born last year from his relationship with martial arts instructor, Tiffany Chen, 45 years old.

The couple has been together since 2021. "She's an adorable little girl - he says - when I look at her everything goes away. It's a great joy and a relief to be with her".

De Niro appears smiling as he holds her in one of the photos published by People.

He is the father of other children born from other relationships, Drena, 56 years old, Raphael, 47 years old, twins Julian and Aaron, 28 years old, Elliot, 25 years old and Helen, 12 years old.

The actor also considers himself a family man and loves when everyone gets together.

"The fact that they're all together means everything to me," he commented.

Likewise, he treasures his friendship with Martin Scorsese, whom he affectionately calls 'Marty'.

"He puts people in a position to do what they do best," he explained, "and directs based on that."

When asked if he is ready to retire, "Not at the moment," he replies.
