A shelter dog's happiness in Modesto, USA, was short-lived as his new owners returned him after just an hour.
It must have been a confusing ordeal for the Anatolian Shepherd Dog S'mores: he spent his first year of life on the streets, then an animal protection organization rescued him, took him to the animal shelter and shortly afterwards a family adopted him.
However, they gave him back after just an hour because the dog was simply too big for them.
He then goes back to the kennel for S'mores and now it's time for him to wait again.
Waiting for people who will accept him for who he is.
Because dog Fritz's old owners were allergic to him, he is now waiting at the animal shelter for a new family.

Leaving a life on the streets behind
Anatolian Shepherd Dogs reach a height of between 71 and 86 centimeters at the withers when they are adults.
Some grow even larger at 90 centimeters.

The life of the stray S'mores begins on the streets of Modesto.
Modesto is a city in the western United States, near San Francisco, with over 200,000 residents.
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog lives there for his first year without shelter from a human until one day a man takes him in and hands him over to the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency (SASA).
The organization works to protect animals in Modesto in a variety of ways.
Tasks that SASA takes on include:
Offer help if pets run away and can no longer be found
Educating the public about the correct handling of animals, the Animal Protection Act and animal protection regulations
Taking in stray dogs
The last point was particularly crucial for Street Dog S'mores.
The organization's staff provided the dog with medical care and a roof over his head.
The joy only lasts for a short time
S'mores hadn't lived in his dog kennel for long when the first interested parties came and wanted to adopt him.
He only spends six days with the organization and he soon has a new family.
The animal care staff couldn't believe the dog's luck.
They handed over S'mores to the new owners, everything seemed to be resolved and had a happy ending.
A dog grandpa who was abandoned after 20 years and taken to the animal shelter wasn't so lucky.

But just an hour later, S'mores was back in the halls of the animal shelter.
His new owners brought the dog back because they didn't want him.
For a reason that probably leaves many animal fans shaking their heads: S'mores was too big for them.
The dog is rather small for its breed: it weighs just 35 kilograms.
For dogs of his breed, a range between 40 and 65 kilograms is completely normal.
After all, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog is considered one of the largest dog breeds in the world.
