For Annie Leibovitz's lens, some of the greatest models of the 20th century posed together in the brand's latest campaign.

When a top model is at the center of an advertising campaign, it always causes a stir, piquing curiosity, arousing interest and even unleashing the passions of the fashion world.

So when there are eight, it's quite a story.

This is the one that Donna Karan New York (DKNY) tells us about, for its spring relaunch.

The American brand has chosen to mix top models from the 1990s and more recent catwalk stars.

Thus, in the photos captured by Annie Leibovitz in a Brooklyn warehouse, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, Carolyn Murphy, Liya Kebede, Karlie Kloss and Imaan Hammam rub shoulders.

The image recalls the “7 easy pieces” collection by Donna Karan, presented in 1985, a concept supposed to facilitate the morning “I have nothing to wear” by offering seven “easy” garments: stockings, tights and bodysuits constituted the peremptory basis , to which were added, according to the models, a skirt, pants, a white shirt, a suit jacket and a cashmere sweater.

The designer was thus at the time a precursor of the “

capsule wardrobe”,

a concept advocating a minimalist vision of fashion, which consists of having only a few pieces, which all go together.

“In Women We Trust”

The campaign slogan, which in French means "in women, we believe", is the same as for the 1992 campaign. In the promotional video, each of the eight top models talks about the designer's influence on the fashion.

For Linda Evangelista, she “represents strength and sensuality”.

For Cindy Crawford, “she introduced a new style of power dressing that celebrated women and their bodies.

It was his strong point, his balance, and it still is.”

The brand and its teams studied thousands of archive looks and vintage details to design the collection, in order to meet the needs of today's consumer, now so seduced by the minimalist wardrobe.

After being sold to LVMH in 2001 for $243 million and bought by G-III in 2016 for $650 million, the DKNY brand is returning to its essentials for its return to the fashion scene.
