Many branded fragrances have a cheaper scent twin.
Dupes are almost identical at first glance, but they can also have disadvantages.
Munich – Real bargain hunters already know the trick.
Scent twins, often called “dupes” in the beauty industry, are perfumes that try to come as close as possible to a well-known scent – and for a much lower price.
By avoiding branded goods, you can definitely lighten the burden on your wallet.
But given the bargain prices, do the perfumes come close to the quality of the originals?
This is how scent twins differ from the original perfume
Many beauty bloggers present perfumes online that share the same smell at different prices.
If the popularity of a designer fragrance increases, the cheaper drugstore replacement won't be long in coming.
While the composition of the fragrances contains the same or similar notes as the original, the alternatives differ in some ways.

For example, it is not permitted to sell direct imitations of the fragrances.
No direct reference to the original may be made, be it through the name, bottle or packaging.
According to the WDR
, these may
not be taken over for legal reasons.
The dupes can easily result in a trademark infringement or a violation of competition law, according to the
VKE cosmetics association.
These dupes offer a cheap alternative to branded perfumes
Nevertheless, several shops have specialized in offering scent twins.
Some of them like Kazaar, Larisé and Éclat are available online.
But they are also represented in Germany with d&p Perfumum and Loris.
At Loris, each number of their perfumes corresponds to a well-known doppelganger.
You can find a list online.
However, this is not allowed to be displayed in the branches themselves.
But other stores like Kik also offer dupes.
Certain scent twins are particularly popular on the Internet.
“Black Opium” by Yves Saint Laurent costs 75 euros, while the dupe “Touch Of Woman” by La Rive is available for just ten euros.
“Alien” by Thierry Mugler comes in at 70 euros, while “Sacrifice” by Ajmal is only 36 euros.
But you have to miss the iconic bottle in the discount version.
The well-known men's fragrance “One Million” by Paco Rabanne actually sells for almost 50 euros.
“Cash Man” by La Rive is available online for the equivalent of five euros.

Fragrance twin in the test – Coco Mademoiselle in four price categories
In the WDR
program Markt,
the same scent was tested in four different price categories.
Fragrance twins for “Coco Mademoiselle” by Chanel can be found at dm, Lidl and Action.
From the original price of 96 euros, the same content goes down to 96 cents for the cheap version.
A perfumer tests all price gradations.
Although the dupes are clearly of lower quality and slightly adulterated, apart from the cheapest version, according to the expert, all others have a right to exist, at least for their price.
The imitations have a few disadvantages.
According to
Stern,
the smell of the dupes disappears much faster than the originals.
This is because cheaper synthetic materials are usually used.
It is also possible that the scent appears identical at first, but develops differently than the branded product.
If you don't want to spend too much money and are happy with slightly lower quality, you can also find a good replacement for classic perfumes online or in the drugstore.
By storing the scent correctly, you can keep it for longer.
