Here is the news that we have selected for you this Thursday, February 8 at midday.

News of the day

Postponed several times, the appointment of the second part of the government should finally take place in the coming hours, a month after the arrival of new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.

Around fifteen people are expected to complete the list of 14 ministers already appointed in January.

On Wednesday, MoDem boss François Bayrou announced that he had refused to join this government, speaking of a lack of “deep agreement on the policy to follow”.

“My support cannot be bargained for,” he said on franceinfo this Thursday.

According to our information, François Bayrou wanted for himself the title of minister of state and number two in the government, as well as four portfolios for members of the MoDem.

The full package was not accepted, which would have led to the High Commissioner's refusal of the plan.

Its rejection still destabilized the executive and risks further delaying the full appointment of the government. “What a mess,” said an advisor to the executive in our columns.

It weakens everything.

Fake bank advisor scams are on the rise, with monumental damage: in the first half of 2023, the bill already climbs to 203 million euros, according to the Banque de France, compared to 340 million euros for the whole of 2022. The scam, which has variations, consists of spoofing a bank's telephone number and calling customers pretending to be a bank advisor.

After taking them into confidence, the scammers encourage victims to make transfers, sometimes robbing them of thousands of euros.

A system preventing the usurpation of bank telephone numbers is being deployed.
