"For each prisoner, regardless of the merit of their judicial situation, we work to provide assistance and guarantee respect for dignity and fundamental rights.

This is what we did, from day one, for the Salis case, well before it became the subject of controversy policies".

This was stated by the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, at the urgent briefing to the Chamber on the Ilaria Salis affair.

"Let's avoid transforming a judicial issue - regulated by well-defined national and European rules - into a political case. Which certainly generates headlines in the newspapers, but does not do Mrs. Salis any good", the minister said again.

"I am a guaranteeist. And I always am. Regardless of the political ideas of those involved in judicial matters. Experience shows that acting with discretion and gradually is precisely in the primary interest of the prisoner", added the head of the Farnesina .

Tension in the Chamber during Tajani's briefing

Tension in the Chamber during Minister Antonio Tajani's briefing on the case of Ilaria Salis.

Both during the deputy prime minister's speech and when the various exponents of the groups spoke, there were bickerings and references to the regulations.

The vice president on duty, Anna Ascani (Pd), had to intervene several times to recall her colleagues.

During Minister Tajani's speech, Dem MP Peppe Provenzano went on the attack when the minister referred to security issues regarding the hypothesis of house arrest for Salis at the Italian embassy.

"What would be the security problems? Are you afraid there are neo-Nazis in the embassy?" asked Provenzano.

“Let's talk about the official documents,” Tajani retorted, to which Provenzano replied “you didn't have the same concern with the secret documentation of the Ministry of Justice.”

Also going on the attack - according to what is reported - were the Dems Marianna Madia and Laura Boldrini, Riccardo Ricciardi (M5s), Marco Grimaldi and Nicola Fratoianni of Avs also referring to what happened with the Marines.

Another moment of tension occurred when the FI deputy Pietro Pittalis attacked Andrea Orlando's speech several times and was recalled by Ascani with the request to address the presidency directly.

A point on which a question and answer on the regulation followed.
