The odyssey of the neighbors who caught a car in a flooded tunnel in Almagro

2024-02-08T23:33:17.222Z

Highlights: A car was trapped in a flooded tunnel and neighbors came out to rescue it. Or rather, to fish it. Everything was recorded in a video that they recorded from a nearby balcony. The red car floated in the waters of the improvised river that seemed to divide the Almagro neighborhood in two: a portion from the Sarmiento train tracks to the north; and the other, looking south. "But how did he do it? Was it sent when it was already flooded?" asked one Twitter user.

A red vehicle tried to cross it despite warnings about the deluge. In the end, they had to come to his rescue and pulled him out with a rope tied to a wheel.

At noon this Thursday in the City of Buenos Aires a curtain of water fell.

The intensity of the rain was so great that dozens of streets were flooded, subway stairs became waterfalls and some Buenos Aires corner of Almagro

was immersed in a surreal scene

.

There a car was trapped in a flooded tunnel and neighbors came out to rescue it.

Or rather, to fish it.

Everything was recorded in a video that they recorded from a nearby balcony, with a privileged view of the large urban pool into which the Yatay underground passage, between Lezica and Querandíes, was transformed - due to the effects of rainfall.

Firefighters carry out their work while the rich river carries hundreds of liters of water through Yatay, towards the nearby Díaz Vélez Avenue.

In the video, in a pan made by the X user @florvvva, it is seen that a red car is stopped against the left curb of Lezica Street, with water up to practically half of its wheels.

The street is impassable due to the rain that had already fallen and that was still coming down from the clouds onto the pavement.

The novel arrived in installments.

The first video lasted 13 seconds, showed the fierce current, the raging 3.5 meter deep river and left suspense about the destination of the vehicle.

Three minutes later, at 1:58 p.m., the woman published the second part.

If before she had flirted with tragedy, now everything led to the lanes of

the most far-fetched comedy

.

The red car floated in the waters of the improvised river that seemed to divide the Almagro neighborhood in two: a portion from the Sarmiento train tracks to the north;

and the other, looking south.

"But how did he do it? Was it sent when it was already flooded?" asked another user, who added that he "thought he heard a lot of noise."

"He was parked and the water swept him away?" he insisted.

"He went with the tunnel already flooded, no one knows which one he painted,

the neighbors yelled at him stupidly and then came out to help him like in the video

," was the explanation given by the woman who left the images for posterity.

These images, more than a minute of material, are compelling: the locals put aside the mockery and insults to focus on that

strange fishing excursion.

The car appears floating, tilted slightly over the bow.

The driver is already outside the vehicle, holding on to the roof and the water reaches his waist.

At his screams, he asks for help, putting his hands to his mouth to amplify his words.

From above, climbing on a railing that was already a dock, the neighbors try to calm him down.

Below, meanwhile, the rescuers are approaching.

From the other bank, a man dressed in sports clothing, a t-shirt with the number 23 in white, dives into the stinking river.

He carries the end of a rope that another supportive neighbor holds from above.

From the front, at the entrance to the tunnel, two other men are advancing to complete the assistance plan.

The one who put on the 23 swims, stroke by stroke, to the vehicle.

Expertly, the aquatic hero ties the rope to the right rear wheel of the boat car.

From above, his companion begins to walk towards Lezica, pulling the rope.

The other two assistants push.

The castaway does not let go of his boat.

Enough, guys!!!

At the entrance to ORT Yatay (Almagro) things like this happen:

The floating vehicle approaches a green garbage can that was more cautious and reached that point, it did not want to venture further: it just wanted to wet its wheels on the shore.

Thirty seconds after the start of the operation, the boat arrives at a safe, dry and passable port, ready to return to its car skin.

Almagro, soaked, left another crazy scene.

A few blocks away, at the door of the ORT school, Yatay headquarters, another Buenos Aires resident was left adrift.

A Twitter user showed it: an orange cone disappears down the street while Tom Hanks' desperate cry in "Castaway" sounds when he loses his friend Wilson.
