Thirteen Sudanese migrants have died
, while another
27 are missing
, in a
shipwreck that occurred off the Tunisian coast
near Sfax, after the sinking of their iron boat, on board which there were 42 people.
The makeshift boat had left from the coast of Jebiniana, near Sfax (central-east), according to the account provided to the authorities by the only two people rescued so far.
The Tunisian judicial authority has opened an investigation into the shipwreck that occurred off the coast of Mahdia which has so far led to the discovery of 13 bodies of Sudanese migrants.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the Courts of Monastir and Mahdia, Farid Ben Jha, on the local radio Mosaique Fm.
According to Ben Jha, the migrants held asylum cards from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
According to the same source, search operations continue to save the missing or recover other bodies.
Meanwhile, the 105 people on board a boat in danger and of whom there had been no news for over 24 hours were intercepted by the Tunisian Coast Guard and taken to Tunisia.
