Stop at a hut after skiing or snowboarding?

According to the Salzburg Chamber of Labor, this can be expensive, as prices have risen by almost 60 percent.

Munich – Skiing is an expensive sport.

But currently price increases are making ski holidays an even more expensive pleasure.

Anyone who goes to a hut in a ski resort usually comes out with a full stomach and an empty wallet.

The food and drinks in Austria's ski huts are particularly usurious, as a current survey by the Salzburg Chamber of Labor (AK) shows.

Prices have risen by 60 percent within ten years.

Price increase of 60 percent in Austria's ski huts: This is how it was measured

The Chamber of Labor examined a total of 192 ski huts in 23 Salzburg ski areas in Tennengau, Pongau, Pinzgau and Lungau.

According to the report, 24 products were documented using a standardized survey form, including eleven drinks and 13 dishes.

It was also asked whether anything was charged for tap water.

Compared to the results of the last survey in 2014, prices in Austria's ski huts have increased by an average of almost 60 percent.

Particularly explosive: According to the Chamber of Labor, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 33.5 percent in the same period.

Consumer advocate and head of the survey, Christian Obermoser, analyzes: “If you look at the results of our last gastronomy survey, it is clear that the ski hut prices have risen above the fee.”

With an average increase of around 60 percent, the prices for beer, fries, yeast dumplings and the like have “almost doubled compared to general inflation,” according to the Chamber of Labor.

The food offered in Austria's ski huts is particularly usurious, as a price increase of 63.44 percent was recorded.

The price of drinks has risen by almost 50 percent.

AK President Peter Eder explains: “Given the enormous price increases, it particularly bothers me that ski water, which is so popular with children, takes the top spot.” This is offered at around 60 percent more expensively.

Skiers and snowboarders even have to pay for tap water, as around a third of the ski huts examined charged money for tap water.

An average of 1.06 euros was due for 250 milliliters.

In principle, the following applies to ski hut prices in Austria: “The greater the number of kilometers of slopes on offer, the higher the prices when stopping for a break,” says the Chamber of Labor.

Lungau performs best when it comes to price increases - with an average of 8.62 percent below the national average.

At 7.44 percent, the ski areas in Tennengau are below the national average.

Despite strong climbs in Obertauern, Pongau is also just below average.

The Chamber of Labor also reports that Salzburg's largest district, on the other hand, is above the national average: "In the Pinzgau ski huts, schnitzel, ski water, etc. cost an average of 4.26 percent more."
